Questions & answers
The Medigo Endoscopy Center does not schedule endoscopy appointments; appointments are made by the CISSS de l'Outaouais following a referral from your doctor.
If you are taking blood-thinning medications (Coumadin, Plavix, Pradaxa, Xarelto, Eliquis, Brilinta, etc.), follow the instructions you were given for stopping them. Continue taking your other medications (including Aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs), unless otherwise directed by your doctor. On the day of the exam, take these medications with a sip of water. Stop taking iron supplements 7 days before the exam (for colonoscopy). Stop taking fiber supplements (e.g., Metamucil) 3 days before the exam (for colonoscopy).
Colonoscopy: Before the exam, you will have a discussion with the doctor and nurse about possible medication during the procedure. Some patients choose not to take any medication. We do not perform a fully sedated colonoscopy, but it is possible to receive medication to manage pain and reduce your level of consciousness. If you have had a painful colonoscopy experience in the past, it is important to inform the healthcare team so that the medication can be adjusted for your comfort.
Cystoscopy : A numbing gel is applied before inserting the device to ensure the exam is performed comfortably.
